Darker Wonderland: A Limited Edition Conceptual Book

This is a comprehensive Illustration and Editorial Design project—a conceptual limited-edition book design of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. It was completed during my Erasmus+ program at UDIT in Madrid, under the guidance of lecturer Pedro Parra Moyano. The project serves as a conceptual exploration of mental health disorders, using the classic narrative as an allegorical framework. The core creative goal was to subvert the traditionally whimsical aesthetic of Wonderland to visualize the isolating and distorting experience of mental health struggles with each key symbol and character in the book was assigned a specific mental health disorder to create a meaningful and cohesive illustrative sequence.
The protective book case features a dominant spiral motif symbolizing the descent into complex psychological states. At the center, the Queen of Hearts is depicted with a massive, single eye, illustrating the paranoia, hyper-vigilance, and distorted focus often associated with severe mental distress.

This project showcases advanced abilities in conceptual illustration, editorial layout and book design, symbolic visual language. It was created exclusively for academic and portfolio purposes as part of a university course at UDIT. It is not affiliated with, commissioned by, or endorsed by any publishers or estates. It was entirely self-initiated for educational and portfolio goals under the supervision of the lecturer, Pedro Parra Moyano.
